helping my cold

Today I made it back to the gym for the first time in 6 days. I had felt weird on my previous visit; my joints ached and my muscles protested and spasmed and I struggled to complete my cardio-hour and subsequent weight-play.

I'd thought that it might just have been fatigue - I'd really pushed myself a couple of days previously and then went for a moderately taxing walk to take some photographs. In response to this apparent debility I was tough with myself, I lost myself in the effort and kept going. This was a mistake. The bizarre and unfamiliar sensations were in fact the start of a cold and my exertions managed to weaken me enough to allow my cold to defeat my immune system.

I felt like a dork.

Fortunately, I'd stopped lifting weights before I did any serious damage to any of my meat; I escaped with a tiny twinge in my lower trapezius, which reminded me over the following days that it is not good to injure oneself.

Tentatively, today I returned to the gym. I managed a very intense 40 minutes on the elliptical trainer and waved a few dumb-bells around. It was nice to be back and it was nice not to start my exertions already physically tired.
